Integrating
art education into the classroom is the basis of many of the
residencies that Karl Knudson teaches. His goals are to expose
students to new artistic techniques, to show teachers how
they can utilize art when teaching other subjects, and to
encourage everyone's creativity. Students and teachers can
then use art to encourage learning in subjects such as math,
history, science and social studies.
Karl
has worked with a number of schools and art camps in Oregon
and Colorado. His residencies have lasted from a few days
to four weeks, and his projects have ranged from "knee
bowls" with kindergartners to a 45 foot tile mural that
was created in collaboration with an entire elementary school.
